It’s been raining.  I like the rain, normally.  But this?  This is getting ridiculous.  If you’re not in the know, Massachusetts had 21 days of rain in June.  I could use a little sunshine.

Since I’m not in the sunshine-generating business, I needed some other pick-me-up.  I found it in a website called My Life is G: Life Rocks Today.  This is one of those websites where anyone submit their own stories with the tag MLIG (for My Life is Good/Great), and then readers vote as to whether the stories are good or great.  It’s a collection of excellent things that are happening to people everywhere, every day.  Here are a few of my favorite examples so far:

Today, I slept in late and came downstairs to find that my little brother had made me eggs, bacon, and toast for breakfast, and had left me a note telling me to have a good time at my party today. He is nice sometimes. :) MLIG.

Today, I decided that the best sound I’ve ever heard was my baby sister’s laugh. MLIG.

Today, I was in my best friend’s convertible and we were singing Hot and Cold by Katy Perry. With hand motions. The family in the minivan behind us laughed along. We waved hi to them. MLIG

Today, I made a new friend. MLIG :)

Today, there was a big ice cream social for the counselors at the camp where I work, although because I’m vegan I usually just socialize. The people who brought us all the ice cream brought soy ice cream for me and I was amazed with their kindness and thoughtfulness because I so often get crap for my dietary choices instead. MLIG

This morning, I took a walk, and I noticed how beautiful the world is. MLIG

Today, I was stressing about exams and feeling really down. I received a card from a really good friend of mine from home and it totally cheered me up. I love my friends. MLIG.

Today, I went running in the rain with my best friend. MLIG

Today my dog that was in an abusive home and doesn’t let anyone touch her let me pick her up and she licked my face. :) My Life Is Good :)

I noticed that in most cases, the submissions to the website were about interactions with other people, or little things that happened during the day.  A few were about finding some unexpected money.  Some mentioned the idea that people realized they could just be happy being themselves, or that they were proud of the work they’d done to get where they are in school.

None talked about how great it was to buy something new.

It’s a whole website full of people who are happy with what they have already — an affirmation, if you will, that it doesn’t take Stuff to be happy.  What a nice website to find after a week of gray days.  Happy holiday weekend, everyone.
